Copley Correspondence Collection: Cross-Contintental Contact

This collection explores the Massachusetts Historical Society collection of Copley family letters. The letters are the single best source of insight into the life of John Singleton Copley and his family in the first half of the nineteenth century, yet scholars rarely consult them directly, instead relying on transcriptions published in The Domestic and Artistic Life of John Singleton Copley by Martha Babcock Amory, granddaughter of the artist. The goal of my project is to make the letters more accessible to researchers by creating a guide to the collection.
